Barbara LeMense Obituary

Barbara LeMense

De Pere - Barbara Ann LeMense, 64, of DePere, passed away on March 22, 2020. She is now pain-free and rejoicing in Heaven with her parents. Barb was born on July 2, 1955 in Oconto to the late Norman and Janet (Christensen) LeMense. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1973, worked at Oconto Memorial Hospital and continued her education at NWTC where she earned her LPN and RN degrees. She was employed at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital for over 40 years and was known for providing comfort and compassion to patients and their families. Nursing was more than a job to her, it was her passion. She made many life-long friends at St. Mary's including her good friend Sr. Donna Truckey. She retired in 2016. Barb was well known for her crazy sense of humor and fun-loving attitude. She enjoyed meeting new people, traveling to the Gulf Shores with her friend Pat and visiting her friend Mary in Arizona. She relaxed with serene walks at Voyageur Park. There were many Saturday treks with her sister Bonnie seeking new adventures. Barb touched the lives of so many people and had a caring, generous heart. She would help anyone in need without being asked. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, Oconto, and presently a member of First United Presbyterian Church, DePere, where she served as a Deacon.

Barbara is survived by her twin sister and best friend, Bonnie, Green Bay; and her big brother Tom and sister-in-law and friend Barb, Green Bay. She is also survived by her two nephews who she loved dearly: Sam (Gina)LeMense, Madison; and Marty (Jamie Landry) LeMense, Milwaukee. They in return loved their Aunt Barbie. She leaves behind other relatives and many, many friends who will miss her.

We would like to thank our church families for their support during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at:

I started my nursing career twenty years ago in the ER with Barb. I was young, new, and extremely nervous of my new found responsibilities. Barb was extremely helpful, kind- she didn't eat the young nurses. In fact, she took all of us under her wing... I hadn't seen her in many years but I would like to think she knew how many young nurses respected her.

I will never forget Barb for her kindness shown to me when I stared at St Mary's Hospital many years ago. She was an excellent nurse. My thoughts and prayers are extended to her family and close friends.

Dear Bonnie, Tom and Barb -

Our thoughts are with you at this very sad and difficult time. We remember with love and affection our trips up north to visit our Wisconsin cousins. It was always so much fun to hang out at Aunt Janet's and Uncle Norman's and get to play and laugh with Barb, Bonnie and Tom. You all were with us in spirit during some of our difficult times and please know we are there for you. We hold you in our hearts. Barb was a really special woman - what we have lost, heaven has gained.

Love, Kathy, Mary Anne, Kim and Pete.

Condolences to the Barbs family. I worked with Barb at St Marys and am so great full that we became friends. There were many trips and cross country skiing that still bring smiles to my face. She was always there when she was needed for strength not just me but my whole family. God puts the right people in your life for a reason that's for sure. It has been a trying week and all I can hope is that Jesus wraps his arms around my friend and her family. Sincerely. Beth Koss/Healey

You were my little cousins. I was 18 years old when you were born. I thought you were the cutest little girls. I remember being with you when you were probably about 2 years old, you were eating a bowl of cereal (proably oatmeal) in your high chairs , one of you dumped her bowl over her head and the other one of you promtly did the same. I am sure your mom and dad are holding her in welcoming arms and she is happy once again. I can only imagine the pain you are feeling. My love to all of you.

You were my littlest cousin. I was 18 years old when you were born. Cutest little girls! Remember being with you while you were eating breakfast. ( you were probably around two) One of you dumped her cereal over her head, the other one of you promptly did the same. I never forgot seeing that. Peace to you now, safe in the arms of your loving parents. My sincerest sympathy to your remaining family. There are no words that can ease your pain. Time will make it more bearable. My love to you all.
