Groll-Picard, Clarice

Clarice M. (Groll) Picard, 83 years young, of Oconto, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at her home where she was cared for and surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with brain and lung cancer, having never smoked a day in her life. Clarice was born February 4, 1933 to the late Norman and Clara (Christensen) Hoppe. Clarice married Larry Groll on February 14, 1953. After Larry's death, Clarice married David Picard on June 17, 1995. Clarice was an avid bowler, #1 Packer fan, softball pitcher, enjoyed golf, playing cards, camping, and having her grandchildren and great grandchildren around her. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, Oconto Women's Club and St. Anne Society. Clarice was born and raised in Oconto. She graduated from Oconto High School class of 1951. She worked at A&W, Stranz Drug Store, The Lantern Restaurant, Dick's Red Owl and the Oconto Pharmacy.

While working at the A&W, Clarice met Larry Groll, who at the time Clarice said, "I wouldn't marry that man if he was the last man on earth." She married him and eight children later........ Clarice is survived by seven children, Rod (Margaret) Groll, IN; Gary (Brenda) Groll, OK; Dan (Sheri) Groll, Oconto; Tim (Joni) Groll, Oconto; Debbie (Chuck Shubnell) Groll, NV; Susie Groll, Oconto; Cindy Dufek, Oconto; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Reuben) Nimmer, Garrett Groll, Amanda Groll, Christi (Steve Westphall) Groll, Robert (Amanda) Groll, Kristin (Kevin) Wopat, Emily Dufek and Ally Dufek; ten great-grandchildren, Alaina, Amelia, Asher, Alexander, Arianna, Connor, Madelyn, Bella, Braxtyn and Connor; four step-children, Bill (Dawn) Picard, Bob Picard, Karen (Ian) McClure, Dave (Teri) Picard; three sisters and one brother, Norma Modrow, Marvin (Joan) Hoppe, Phyllis Murphy, DeeDee (Roger) Badora, sister-in-law, Bev Hoppe and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, son Steve, husband Dave "Dibs" Picard, sister, Barbara Ann, brothers Bill and Robert, son-in-law, Mike Dufek, and brothers-in-law, Jack Modrow and Bill Murphy.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Gallagher Funeral Home, Oconto, from 4 to 8 PM Monday, February 29, 2016. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Oconto, from 10 to 11 AM. Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember officiating. Burial will be at the Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.gallagherfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given.

A special thank you to Unity Hospice and Father Joel for their compassion and care. Clarice was known to be very lucky. The lucky ones were those who knew her, loved her and have the memories to cherish.
