George Hoeffel Obituary

Hoeffel, George W.

George W. Hoeffel, 81, passed away from a heart attack on Friday, April 4, 2014, while preparing for another good day at the McCormick Home.

He was born on July 6, 1932, in Chicago, IL, to the late Paul & Julia Hoeffel.

George served in the U.S. Army. He received his Master's Degree from Loyola University.

He started his career in Joliet, IL. He then moved his family to Green Bay where he worked for St. Vincent Hospital in human resources for over twenty years. Following his retirement George reentered the work force where he enjoyed his time working for the Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Tribe.

George married Peggy Hearden on August 22, 1959, in Green Bay, together they raised five children. Although they divorced, they remained friends through the years.

He will best be remembered by his children for the life lessons he taught them and for his unstoppable support of them. Though often times inappropriate, he had great sense of humor. He supported those in need. He had many friends young and old who were very important to him.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, googling and face booking. He loved a good cup of coffee. He was proud of hosting the "boys behaving badly" weekends at his cabin as well as his ability to spit fire and teaching people the art of spoon hanging.

George is survived by Peggy Hoeffel; their children, Paul, Patty, Susan (Tony) Greene, and Peter (Amy); and grandchildren, Jack and Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter or Unity Hospice.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. Visitation will continue at 10:00am on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at St. John the Evangelist, 413 St. John St., Green Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday with Rev. John Girotti officiating. Interment will be at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To leave a message for the family, please visit www.NewcomerGreenBay.com

George's family wishes to thank the staff at The Jack & Ingrid Meng Residence for giving him fantastic care which allowed him more time with his family and friends. He was proud to be a "graduate" of the hospice program, which led to his move to the McCormick Home.

I just learned today my friend George passed away. It breaks my heart that I spoke to him twice in the past month, the last time on March 23rd. I told him I was going to visit him soon, which I planned to do this Thursday. Why did I wait so long? I and my family will always remember George as a good man. As I remember the wonderful times we had for so many years,I know he is sharing the laughter of the angels. My deepest sympathy to George's family and friends. Rest in God's arms my friend. To George's family, I enjoyed George's wit and humor. After he retired from Stockbridge, we often "threatened" to visit each other. My mother, Arlee passed away last week as well and I had hoped to visit him in the near future as I heard he entered hospice. He was a good friend. My condolences.

To the family - my deepest condolences for the loss of your dad and family member. I always appreciated that he would join us at Jimmy Seas for the annual "Friends of Katie" happy hour before the walk. Then when I moved to Jacksonville he kept in touch via email, Christmas cards and when I would get home on vacation would stop in the Happy hour to say hi I always loved our conversations. There are no words to say to help with the loss of a parent you can rest assured you will meet again and I am positive that Katie was waiting to give him a hug and welcome him home

I will miss you my best friend....i will always treasure all the wonderful times & laughter we had together. You will forever be in my heart!!!

George, rest in peace! You were the most wonderful man--always positive and upbeat. I never heard you say a bad word about anyone. The world has lost a great man; I have lost a very good friend. I will miss you but believe that we will meet again when it is my turn to join God's legion of angels in Heaven. Peace to your family who you loved so much.
