Gladys Sharp Obituary
In loving memory of Gladys Sharp on her birthday and in celebration of Mother's Day. Our grief at the time of her passing made putting words to paper too difficult a task.
Gladys Genevieve (Wanner) Sharp, 89, passed from this earth to her Heavenly home on November 12, 2012 due to complications from a stroke.
Gladys was born at home via midwife in Mountain, WI on May 7, 1923 to the late Herman & Jennie (McDonell) Wanner. Born third to a family blessed with 12 children, she shared many stories of growing up in the woods of Green Bay and becoming a lifetime Packers fan.
In 1943, she travelled west by train to the Washington coast seeking work & adventure. There she met the love of her life Max Eugene Sharp, a handsome roller-skating sailor. Their courtship was swift as he was shipping out & couldn't imagine life without her. They were married on November 4, 1944. The marriage lasted 64 years until his passing, but their love story lasted until her final breath.
After WWII, the couple dropped anchor & built their family home in the Paradise Hills area of San Diego, CA. They welcomed son Darron Lee in 1946 & daughter Sandra Lynn in 1951. Her family meant everything to her.
At the time of her passing, Gladys was survived by her son & daughter-in-law Darron & Laura (Gillen) Sharp, Simi Valley CA; daughter & son-in-law David & Sandie (Sharp) Penney, San Diego CA; grandchildren Amy (Sharp) & Joshua Rowley, Burbank CA; Brandy (Sharp) & Duane Dinnocente, El Segundo CA, Candice (Sharp) & Justin Wiesblott, Goleta CA, Darrolynn Sharp, Athens AL, Christopher, Darra, & Elizabeth Sharp, Simi Valley CA, Tina (Gifford) & Hank Starkey, Aurora CO, Mindy (Gifford) & Wil Sanders, Elkmont AL, Darron Gifford, ten great-grandchildren as well as siblings Jean Wanner, Frank Wanner, LaVerne (Wanner) Gibson, Genevieve (Wanner) Bricker, Donald Wanner, and Darlene (Wanner) Page. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by Irma (Wanner) Duncan, brothers Norman, Jack (Rudy), Gordon, and Herman Wanner Jr.
A service was held & her ashes interred November 26, 2012 at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
