James Splitgerber Obituary

Splitgerber, James

James "Gerber" Splitgerber, 69, Silver Cliff, formerly of Green Bay, passed away, Friday, December 4, 2015, following a long illness. He was born on April 15, 1946, in Green Bay to Charles and Agnes (Schuman) Splitgerber.

After graduating from Green Bay Preble High School in 1964, James went to work for Schreiber Foods. He was drafted into the Army in November of 1965, and honorably discharged 2 years later. During his time in the service, he served as a Helicopter Crew Chief, stationed at Fort. Sam Houston, Texas. After his discharge, he returned to Schreiber Foods retiring in 2008, after a 44 year career.

James enjoyed the North woods so much that he moved to Silver Cliff with his fianceé, Yvonne Steel in 2008. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

His is survived by his fiancée, Yvonne; a daughter, Denice (Kevin Gille) Splitgerber; his granddaughter Alexea Splitgerber; three sisters, Yvonne (James) Zimonick, Janice Oswald, Karen (Jack) Grant; two brothers, Roland "Bud" (Ruth) Splitgerber and Dennis (Judy) Splitgerber. He is further survived by Yvonne's children, Brian Steel, Ben (Sarah) Steel, Matt (Alisa) Steel; her grandchildren, Jason Heidorn, Maya Steel, Anderson Steel and Rowan Steel, and the Sterckx family. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Margaret "Muggs" Splitgerber, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two precious children, Laurie and Brian and his parents.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E Mason St., Wednesday, December 9, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Military Honors will conclude the services. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Garden Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.prokowall.com.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff that cared for Jim at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee and the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. Special thanks also to his transplant coordinator at the VA, Kathi Wahoviak.

Thank you for letting me take care of Jim for these past years. He fought a long battle with his illness and he will never be forgotten. Thru it all he was always a appreciative kind person and we thank him for his service here at the Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center. Thank you Yvonne for your dedicated caregiving.
