Jan Eggert Obituary

Eggert, Pastor Jan C.

Pastor Jan C. Eggert, 63, was called to Eternal Life on September 3, 2017, at home with his loving family by his side. He fought a valiant three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was born in Manitowoc on August 23, 1954 to Russell and Ruth (Schroeder) Eggert. He graduated from Northwestern College, Watertown, WI and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1977. He went on to attend the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, WI and graduated in 1981. He was an accomplished organist and choir director.

In his thirty-five years of ministry (1981-2016), he served St. Paul - Appleton, WI, Immanuel - Oshkosh, WI, Mt. Olive - Tulsa, OK, Immanuel - Shirley and St. Paul - Greenleaf, WI. He also served in the mission field in Pickett, WI, Tulsa, OK, and Anchorage, AK. He was happiest in the pulpit, delivering powerful thought evoking messages that glorified God and pointed people to Christ. He encouraged others to lead by example. He loved the Lord, and the people he was called to serve. His favorite Bible verse is Psalm 118:24, "This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it." He always had a smile on his face, and his faith never wavered even in the darkest of days, which was a true testament of his belief in Christ. He often said, "I will either get better here on earth, or I will be perfect in Heaven."

On August 13, 1983, he married Sandra Kunath. They celebrated thirty-four years of marriage, and were blessed with four children. He loved life and being surrounded by his family. He cherished his newest role as Papa to his four grandchildren and loved making them smile and laugh. In his free time, he was an enthusiastic gardener, fisherman, and appreciated new technology. He was also an avid reader, researcher, and enjoyed playing the piano.

Pastor Jan C Eggert is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his four children Nikolas Eggert of Appleton, Katherine (Bradley) Wilson of Denmark, Elizabeth (Joseph III) Koss of Luxemburg, Andrew Eggert of Green Bay, his four grandchildren Braden Wilson, Jordan Koss, MaKayla Koss, Carter Wilson, his siblings, Dean (Mary) Eggert Milwaukee, WI, Nancy Myslik Abrams, WI, Susan (Robert) Sawall Milwaukee, WI, sister in law Diane Eggert Jensen Beach, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell & Ruth Eggert, his brother Dennis Eggert, and his brother-in-law Ronald Myslik.

Funeral Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church 3735 Shirley Rd, De Pere on Friday, September 8th with Pastor David Ruddat and Pastor Steven Sauer officiating. Visiting hours will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2:00p.m. NICKEL FUNERAL HOME, Morrison is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Aurora Vince Lombardi Cancer Treatment Center and Unity Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

I would like to share today my joy, with the family and friends of Rev. Jan Eggert, in our Lord's salvation. Our hearts are saddened but also comforted in knowing Jan can now rest from his labors. I join with you, in looking forward to that day when we will all be able to gather around the throne of the Lamb, where there will be no more suffering, pain, or sorrow. I'm confident the Lord is saying to Jan, "well done thou good and faithful servant, you have washed your robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." God be with each of you as you worship our Lord today.

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Eggert and their children. I knew Jan in high school and have fond memories of him. Always a smile and a very infectious personality. I regret not stopping in at St. Paul when he was there and saying hi. My prayers are with you.

I am heartbroken, reading this. Sandra, you told me 2x in one week "I was so lucky to be married to this man" Well, honey, he was pretty darn lucky too. You did everything perfectly. I am so sorry for your pain--I saw Jan in good shape and near the end, and in each situation, you were his rock. I cant imagine your pain, but I wont say all of the "canned" things people say. I will, however say, that the 2 of you found a love most dream of. Jan was great to you, you were great to him-to the last minute. I love you both, I think about you daily
