John McCormick Obituary

John Brian McCormick

JOHN BRIAN McCORMICK, age 69, passed away on March 13, leaving behind his wife of forty years, Bridget Sperl, his daughters Claire and Sheila, son Jack, son-in-law Ben Kloesel, grandchildren Luke and Amalia Kloesel, sisters Kathleen Wieting and Christine McCormick, brother Dennis McCormick and many nieces and nephews. He was born to Jerome and Florence McCormick and raised in Green Bay, graduating from West High School in 1969. After graduating from Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin Law School, he joined the City Attorney's Office in St. Paul, MN where he rose to the position of Deputy City Attorney before retiring in 2012. John will be remembered by all who knew him for his positive approach to life, his quick wit and outgoing personality, his generosity and eagerness to help others and his deep love for his family. John was also fun to be around, whether at the family's lake cabin in Wisconsin, at Green Bay Packer and Minnesota Twins games, during his duck hunting expeditions or traveling the world with his wife Bridget. John just enjoyed life and he made us, who knew him, keenly aware of what it could offer. Due to COVID-19, there will be a private memorial at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 21.

I am heart-broken about John's passing. He was a good friend (despite him being a Packer's fan and I a Bears fan). He always talked lovingly and proudly about Bridget, Clare, Sheila and Jack. I always laughed when we were together and he had the amazing ability to turn frustration (even his own) into laughter. He will be greatly missed. GeoS

My deepest sympathies to all John's immediate family. I have not had the pleasure of meeting them and am very sad to only now be able to express condolences to them. I was fortunate to be able to bond with John years ago through my amazing "brotherly" association at the Beta Phi Chapter of Pikes at Purdue. The many years that have past have not dampened my love and admiration for John. I miss is charm and humor to say the least. May the road always rise up to meet you John, may the sun be always at your back, and I'm sure you are in Heaven way before the devil knew you were gone (my irreverent paraphrase of a Gaelic blessing). Give my best to the Chapter Eternal, love Tony

I am very sorry for the loss of John. He was a high school classmate. During the 60's, when I knew him, he was a friend to many and an enemy of no one. Prayers for John and his entire family.

I was deeply saddened to hear this. John and I spent many hours in the duck blind and at decoy collectors shows. As a city attorney he kept me out of trouble in city government and worked very hard for the benefit of St. Paul. The citizens could not have been served by a better civil servant. We will miss his friendship, thoughtful comments and occasional Irish fire. Today, a toast of Jameson to John.

John was a fellow board member of the Minnesota Decoy Collectors Association. He always had a smile when meeting you, and a quiet way about him. He was one of those guys that you enjoyed being around. He will be missed by so many people.
