Matthew Grunwald Obituary

Grunwald, Matthew P.

Matthew P. Grunwald, 27, Green Bay. Matt was born to Marcia (Anderson) Grunwald and the late William Grunwald on July 1, 1988. God blessed us with a special angel to take care of. He trusted us enough to raise him into a young man. On. November 4, 1992, Jesus took Bill home to be with him and on February 15, 2016, he decided it was time for Matt to join him and his father, Bill. Matthew was an organ donor, donating his liver, knowing his spirit will live on in someone else will always be a comfort. Matt was three months old when he began educational therapy at the Green Bay CP Center and then at BARC. He attended Anne Sullivan Grade School, Edison Middle School and Green Bay East High School graduating in 2007. He continued his education at Syble Hopp, graduating in 2009 and continued participating in programs at the CP Center and for the past nine months at ASPIRO. Matt always looked forward to the fieldtrips with his friends. He also enjoyed participating in the baseball games at the Miracle Field in Allouez.

Matt's mom, as well as his brothers, Erik and Casey, were his fulltime caregivers. Casey went the extra mile taking a course at the Red Cross, specifically to learn how to care for his brother. Matt was included in all the family activities, whether it was giving advice to Erik while he was working on his truck or running errands with his mom, keeping the beat to Waylon Jennings and the Boys. Matt loved music and had a smile that was contagious. He made friends very easily wherever he went. Matt brought joy and happiness to his family, who were so fortunate to have been able to share their lives together.

He is survived by his mom, Marcia and his two brothers, Erik Anderson and Casey Grunwald, both of Green Bay; Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Grunwald; his maternal grandparents, Paul and Bea Anderson and his paternal grandparents, Paul and Marion Grunwald.

Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. after 1:00 pm Sunday, February 21, until time of service. Funeral service 4:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. David Hatch officiating. Burial in the Allouez Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to Matt's family at www.prokowall.com. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Our little angel, "Matt", "Matty", "Matthew", "Brother", "Moms Little Man", we love you and you will be in our hearts forever. When we think about you, we smile. Thanks for teaching us how to smile.

Marcia, Casey and Erik, you have my deepest condolences! Matty was a blessing to all who had the opportunity to meet him, with a smile that was so contagious! My heart is heavy knowing how much love and care you all provided for him and to keep him at home for his life journey! Marcia, you are an excellent mother and the Lord knew that you would be his angel through life! I will always remember the day we moved in next door and meeting you all for the first time. Your house was a second home, and watching Matty and casey grow up throughout the years was a blessing in my life. Thank you for blessing me with the opportunity and trust to have him as a part of my life! Love Lara

Marica I'm so sorry about Matt. We will all miss him. He accomplished so much and overcame more obstacles then most people can say. He graduated high school and lived a long life for a person with his condition. I will miss how he would get all happy and excited when I would play with him as kids together. I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch as best as I could but just know he will always be by your side.

I am heartbroken to read of Matthew's passing. I worked for Bellin Home Care in college and was one of the caregivers who had the absolute pleasure of spending time with him. I have thought of him and his infectious smile often over the years! My thoughts and prayers are with you Marcia, and all of your family. God's blessings to you!
