Richard Schefe Obituary

Schefe, Richard "Dick"

Richard (Dick) C. Schefe, 68, of Green Bay, passed away on September 15, 2014, at home with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dick was born in Green Bay, WI on March 19, 1946 to the late Kenneth and Blache (Fuller) Schefe. He attended St. Pat's grade school and Premontre High School Graduating in 1964. He worked at Shade Business Forms in the shipping/receiving department until he became disabled and the plant shut down.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #3955 and volunteered for numerous community events. Dick was known for the many lives he has touched and left a mark on through teaching Hunter Safety for 25 years in the De Pere area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, computer puzzles, and spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed his Wednesday morning breakfast with the deer hunting bunch at Nicolet Restaurant, razzing the waitresses.

Dick is survived by his two sisters, Jan Delemater of Baldwin, WI and Dorothy Pruden of Brookfield, WI; three children, Ken and Melissa Schefe, Kris Schefe and special friend Bret Wery of Green Bay, and Steve Schefe of De Pere; three grandchildren, Tyler, Alex, and Madelyn Schefe. He is also survived by his dogs, Tucker and Lily, and boat Indebt; as well as many others he parented along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Robert Delemater of Green Bay, WI and Jim Pruden of Milwaukee, WI; one niece Cheryl Keuler of Shawano, WI; one nephew Mark (Grog) Grognet of Baldwin, WI.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his friends John VanGheem, Greg Rottier, Herb Kocken, and Rosemary Manning for all the help given over the years as well as the numerous nurses of Bellin Hospital, Dr. Lynche and her staff, which cared for him and put up with his joking towards the end.

He would like to thank all the waitresses at Nicolet Restaurant on Wednesday mornings, his three children for the medical attention given to keep him at home, especially his daughter, Kris, for nursing him the last few years.

We are so sad to hear about the loss of your Dad . . . we didn't hear about it in time to make it to his service, but we want you all to know what an impact he had on our lives . . . We will remember break times at Shade, lots of laughs, wonderful Christmas cards, and the love he had for his kids and grandkids. John was fortunate enough to spend some time with him at the Shade Reunion and he will hold on to those memories for a very long time. Our hearts ache for all of you . . . he was a great, great man!

I was told by Jeremy that your Dad passed and Ken, Steve and Kris my thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. I lost both my parents to different cancers and when they pass it still is very difficult. We had alot of time together from the past and I have thought of all of you fondly and hoping for only the best for all three of you. I'm sure your Dad was proud of all three of you. Remember and keep close all of the good memories of your Dad.

I remember Dick and his high school friends when they would come up to the Chute Pond County Park to go camping. He was a fine guy and a friend also to me and my parents Cass and Dottie Fonferek. The summers were always fun when they were around. Sorry to hear of his passing.

So very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. Dick and I were very old friends (60's) as his parents and my parents aways got together on New Years Eve. He taught me how to smoke, and drink in Grandpa's shed. We also worked together for many years at Shade. Just spent some time with him at the Shade reunion. Prayers to you Buddy you will be missed.

Dick was a good guy and a good friend. I enjoyed going to his house working on school projects at St. Pat's and the many rides home from Premontre in his hot '55 Chevy. I missed him at our Premontre 50 year reunion. He always showed up at St. Pat's and Premontre reunions. I will miss him.
