Roger Durocher Obituary

Durocher, Roger

Roger Oliver Durocher, 79, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully on February 16, surrounded by family, from a malignant brain tumor. Roger was born in Peshtigo, WI on December 20, 1935 to the late Alphonse and Helen Durocher. He grew up in Coleman, WI graduating from Coleman High School in 1954. Roger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty (Brady) on January 14, 1961 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.

Roger was employed by Ft. Howard Paper Company, where he worked for 38 years. He also worked part time as a ticket taker for PMI, and enjoyed working at the Brown County Arena, Shopko Hall and the Resch Center for 25+ years. Roger and Betty enjoyed traveling to many different parts of the world. He liked to play golf, and his greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren, and his great-grandson Gunner.

Roger was an active member of Resurrection Parish in Green Bay, where he was an usher and Eucharistic Minister. His faith was very important to him, and every Thursday he spent in Eucharistic Adoration at the chapel at St. Peter and Paul Parish for 15 years since it began in December of 1999.

Anyone who knew Roger would agree he was a perfectionist. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." He always tried to keep everything as perfect as he could.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Betty, and his two wonderful daughters; Denise (Jim) Wesolowski and Renee Flis. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Kyle Wesolowski, Kasie (Gary) DeCaster, Travis Wesolowski, Olivia Flis and Jack Flis; one great-grandchild Gunner DeCaster; a brother Jerry (Marilee) Durocher; sisters: Kay (Pete) Lamensky, Fay (Don) Smith, Rita Berg, Judy (Bob) Henning and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Helen Durocher and one brother-in-law Tom Berg.

Roger was a kind, thoughtful, person who would do anything for anyone. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Friends are invited to gather with the family at Resurrection Catholic Parish, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Friday, February 20, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00am Friday with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Online condolences at www.cotterfuneralhome.com

So sorry to hear about our cousin, Roger, his illness and passing away. I am the late Lloyd Durocher's oldest daughter, Sandy (Durocher) Rasmussen. Eventhough we were not in touch that often I nevertheless always admired Roger for his strong faith and compassion with others. I, too, try to be very active in the faith we were brought up with. Now he enjoys the beatific vision we all hope to see someday when our life on earth has ended. God bless all of you with the strength and consolation you need during this challenging time. Cousin, Sandy Durocher Rasmussen

Dear Betty, Denise & Renee and family, We are both shocked and saddened to read this terrible news this morning. We didn't know anything about this, and though we haven't spent any time together since we all moved out of the old neighborhood, we always thought there would be time to get together "sometime". The obit says it all about Roger, he WAS a special guy. So sorry we can't be there but know we are thinking of all of you.

February 17, 2015

Betty, Denise and Renee, my thoughts are with you during this very difficult time. Roger was one of a kind and I will always see that huge smile when I think of him. Big hugs to all of you. Lynn Podoski

February 17, 2015

Betty, Denise, Renee, and family,

Dan and I want to express our deepest sympathy to you all. Roger did have a heart of gold, a smile on his face, and yes, he was a perfectionist. We fondly remember the neighborhood booyahs; good times.

Find comfort in wonderful memories and peace that comes with the assurance from our heavenly father's words: "absent from the body, present with the Lord".
