Brzezinski, Sr., Walter J. "Wally"

Walter J. "Wally" Brzezinski, Sr., 94, Green Bay died Monday, January 7, 2013, at a local nursing home.

He was born March 3, 1918, in Milwaukee to Joseph and Sophie (Drzymala) Brzezinski. During World War II, Wally served as a Sergeant in the 500th Armored Tank Division. He served in Italy and the Rhineland. In 1945, he was honorably discharged. In 1948, he married Loretta Brezinski. She preceded him in death in 2006. Wally worked for Thompson Boat and later ran his own garage and service station in Peshtigo, and moved to Green Bay in 1989. He worked for Schroeder's Flowerland until his retirement at the age of 84. Wally had been a member of the Menominee VFW and had served as a 4-H leader, teaching auto-mechanics.

He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Walter Brzezinski Jr., Bellevue; Patricia Brzezinski, Marinette; Joseph and Mary Jo Brzezinski, Green Bay; Cynthia and Robert Payne Sr., Peshtigo; four grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Wenninger, Drew Brzezinski, Robert Payne Jr. and Daniel Payne. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bill Carey, Eau Claire; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Brzezinski, Oconto.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Loretta; three brothers, Stanley, Steve and Chet Brzezinski; two sisters, Sophie Risberg and Irene Brenza.

Friends may call at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Dr., from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. John VanDeuren officiating and Rev. Paul Demuth concelebrating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. The Brzezinski family wishes to express their gratitude to the staffs of the McCormick Memorial Home and the Odd Fellow Home for their care of Wally during his stay. They would also like to acknowledge Bonnie Fermanich from the Brown Co. Veterans Service Office for her loving assistance.

We will miss Wally & his 'love' for the Polkas that we played for him & the other residents, at Odd Fellows! He used to hang-back, before going to his room & chat with us.
