William Kolb Obituary
William F. "Bill" Kolb, 79, De Pere, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, after a yearlong struggle with lung cancer. He was born March 18, 1934, in De Pere to Anthony and Pearl (Spear) Kolb.
Bill grew up in De Pere and graduated from Nicolet High School. On July 10, 1954, he married Rosalie "Lee" VandeLogt at St. Mary Catholic Church in De Pere. Following his wedding, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany. After his discharge from the military, Bill worked for the city of De Pere before beginning his career with the De Pere Fire Department. He retired in 1989 after 21 years. Bill had achieved the rank of Lieutenant and worked as the Fire Department's Training Officer.
Bill was an accomplished craftsman who enjoyed home remodeling. His remodels included a cottage in Athelstane which his family enjoyed for many years. In later years, Bill and Lee bought and remodeled a cottage in Egg Harbor. The cottage in Door County featured a gazebo which Bill built that slept six people. Bill was a loving husband and for many years cared for his wife, Lee, who suffered with rheumatoid arthritis.
Bill is survived by his children, Debbie Kolb, Franklin, WI; Pam and John Jenk, Hales Corners, WI; Mark and Carolyn Kolb, Hudson, WI; Lisa Maas, Green Bay; Stuart and Pam Kolb, Green Bay; Mary Kolb, De Pere; Bill and Amy Kolb, Brookfield, WI; eleven grandchildren, Leah, Austin, Jennifer, Eric, Veronica, Mariah, Mackenzie, Benjamin, Brittany, Rachel, Connor; one sister, Ruby (Bob) Ahasay; three brothers, Gene Kolb, Lloyd (Beverly) Kolb; Darrell Kolb and Cathy; sister-in-law, Nancy Ringblom; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie "Lee"; his parents; son-in-law, Bob Maas; brothers, Jerome and Donald Kolb; and a special sister-in-law, Trudy Kolb.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. (TODAY), Friday. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Dr. in Ledgeview from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday (TODAY). The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. today at the church with Rev. Richard Getchel officiating and Rev. John Harper concelebrating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Our Heartfelt Sympathy to the Kolb Family. We are upset that we did not know of Bill's death and funeral arrangements in time to personally express our sympathy to all of you. We have so many fond memories of your mom and dad as our backyard neighbors, and please know that they are in our hearts every Christmas as we hang our precious hand-made ornaments on our Christmas tree.
