Yvonne Pigeon Obituary

Pigeon, Yvonne Marie

Yvonne Marie Pigeon, Green Bay, died Wednesday, August 19, 2014 at the age of 80. Born in 1934 to Lauren and Delores Johnson, Eve married Richard Pigeon on June 6, 1953 in Bay Settlement. Together they raised six children. Upon graduating from St. Joseph's Academy in 1952, Eve was accepted into the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, a career she would decide not to pursue due to her marriage the following year to Dick and the start of their family.

Throughout her life, Eve had to overcome various obstacles, from daughter Pam's major stroke at age ten, to Dick's multiple hip surgeries, to her own numerous battles through the years with lung, oral, and stage-four breast cancer, all of which she managed to survive. Through everything, Eve very seldom complained, never hesitant in her anticipation of tomorrow. She loved card games with friends, was a champion cribbage player, enjoyed dancing, and could often to be heard singing softly to herself.

After her children left the house, Eve went on to enjoy many years of work outside the home with various organizations, including Our Lady of Charity School for girls and, later, Ethan House, a group home for delinquent boys. Eve was a very sharp woman with an extraordinary memory. If once she heard your birth date, she never forgot it. Such gifts, however, would be taken from her by the time she reached her mid-seventies with the slow progression of a dementia that eventually robbed both Eve and her family of her wonderful and gregarious personality.

Eve was preceded in death by Dick, her husband of fifty-five years, her eldest daughter, Pam, and an infant daughter, Jean. Surviving her are family members, Peggy Brusky (children Wendy and Mike), John & Marianne Pigeon (Dominic, Dean, Nicki, Ginger, and Cherie), Sue & Jim Miller (Christie, Bridget, and Heidi) Cathy & Tom Hermes (Jackie and Max), Bob & Jean Pigeon (Amanda, Ryan, and Rachael), son-in-law, Mark Poels (Jessie and Karen), and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Nathan, Maggie, Ricky, and Katie. Also, siblings, Julaine Herman, Tom Johnson, Tim Johnson, and Sherri Willi. There could not have been a more loving or supportive person in our lives than our mother.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August, 22, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2771 Oakwood Drive, from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Demuth officiating. Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.

Funeral arrangements provided by Lyndahl; home health care assistance during Eve's final weeks by Unity Hospice. Grateful acknowledgement is made to both.

Rest in peace Aunt Eve. Our thoughts are with your children and grandchildren. Glad though that you have been reunited with Dick and Pam. God bless.

I have so many fond memories of grandma!! I think many of my favorites involve sleepovers at her house growing up! We're going to miss her, but I look forward to seeing Grandma and Grandpa again soon restored to prefect health in God's Kingdom :-) Sorry I can't make the funeral because I am unable to miss the continuing education class I am in M-S from 8-5 this week. My thoughts, prayers and love will be with all of my family during this sad time of loss.

I worked with Yvonne at OLC in the late 70s. Her heart was so kind. My prayers and love are with all of you. Remember her beautiful spirit, I will.
