CEDARVILLE — Dr. Edwin "Ed" Stanley Braithwaite, age 79 of Cedarville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 13, 2024. He was born November 26, 1944 in Washington, the son of the late John Alfred and Joyce Elinor (Gunderson) Braithwaite. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Vivian (Rev. Fred) Karlson and Dr. Gilbert (Pamela) Braithwaite, adopted brothers, David (Susan) Hung, and Nathan (Nancy) Ngai, nieces and nephews, Debbie (Johnny) Anderson, David (Tanya) Braithwaite, and Danny Braithwaite, Carly (Karlson) VanSingel, Joyanne (Maj. Peter) Teachout, Annette (Rev. Christopher) Watson, Benjamin (Kate) Braithwaite, Sgt. Sterling (Laura) Braithwaite, and numerous beloved cousins, great nieces, and great nephews. Along with his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald, Dr. Wilfred, and Alfred Braithwaite, and niece, Dorothy Braithwaite. Edwin was a 1962 graduate of Ferndale High School, Washington. Continuing his education, he received his BA from Western Washington University in 1966, MA from Western Washington University in 1968, and a Ph.D from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1975. Edwin served as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin. He later spent the remainder of his time teaching at the Cedarville Baptist Bible College from 1976-2013, gaining him the title of Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. Dr. Braithwaite was affiliated with the American Mathematical Society and Mathematical Association of America. He enjoyed playing the piano, helping around the family farm, going on numerous family vacations, telling jokes, and eating pie. Edwin was a faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church, Xenia Hospitality Chorus, and Scripture Memory Fellowship, where he memorized scripture beginning at age 11 until his passing as a current board member. Viewing will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Grace Baptist Church, Cedarville at 1:00PM with the funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Tim Cochrell. Burial to follow at North Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson Lytle and Lewis Life Celebration Center, Springfield.
