XENIA — Rev. Eric M. Wardle, age 77, of Xenia, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born October 31, 1943 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother: Janice M. (Brownfield) Wardle; father and step mother: John R. and Anna (Wobb) Wardle; and brothers: John Mark; Richard N.; Arthur L. and Samuel R. Wardle; sisters: Miriam Gayle Gloss; Janice M. Gentry and Bonnie Humphreys. Eric is survived by his wife, Sharon (Stephenson) Wardle; 3 sons: Eric Matthew Jr. Wardle (Sarah) of Springfield, MO; Joel Stephen Wardle of Syracuse, NY and Timothy Bart (Julie) Wardle of Xenia; granddaughters: Rebecca, Jennifer, Tara, Madison and Amber; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eric proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1961-65. He served the Lord as a Baptist minister for 50 years, until his retirement in 2016. He loved God and studied the Bible continuously. He enjoyed feeding the birds and was a collector of watches and time pieces. Throughout his life, Eric was eager to learn, being knowledgeable in many areas. Although Eric lived in Xenia for many years, he remained a devoted and loving native of Pittsburgh. Most importantly, Eric loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Services will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2928 Wilmington Dayton Road, Bellbrook, OH with Pastor Darrell Messer and Rev. Stephen Patrick co-officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 AM Thursday until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens. Masks will be available at the church for those who wish to wear them.
