XENIA — June (Curry) Gorham of Xenia, passed away on December 21, 2024, at Greene Memorial Hospital, the day after being celebrated and surrounded by those who loved her on her 93rd birthday. She was born December 20, 1931, in Middletown, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Vada (Downing) Curry. June was a graduate of Miami University of Ohio where she met the love of her life, her husband, Dr. John Richard "Dick" Gorham, who preceded her in death on March 20, 2024. June earned her Master's Degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and was a beloved teacher. Throughout her career in education she taught hundreds of students as far away as Paraguay to Alaska to Maryland. It was there she retired from Glenelg Country School after spending the last 20 years of her career as a first grade teacher for the Dragons. June was an active member of Xenia United Presbyterian Church and had a passion for children, a love of learning, and helping others in need. She and her late husband of 71 years lived a life of selfless service, fostering many children throughout their lives and opening their home to anyone who needed a place to stay. She is survived by five daughters, Susan (Drew) Mrenna, Sharon Leivestad, Lynda Marquardt, Anna (Daniel) Bolia, and Joann (Craig) Lorch, three sons, John F. (Jennifer) Gorham, Joseph Gorham, and David (Remy) Boyd, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, her brother, Dr. John (Marilyn) Curry, by numerous nieces and nephews, and by so many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, their son Daniel Gorham, and by a granddaughter, Suzanne Mason. June has left a lasting impression on so many but we know she is happy to be reunited with her Savior and the people she loved on Earth in heaven. To those that knew her as "Nan Nan" she will forever be remembered for giving the best hugs in the world, her endless chocolate chip cookies, her joy, and unconditional love. A Celebration of June's Life will be held at 11am, Friday, January 24, at Xenia United Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 10am Friday until the service time. Private graveside services will be in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation at Komen.org, in her memory. She was such a mentor and great teacher. I once saw her on top of a desk making a point to the students. My condolences to her family. I appreciated being a comrade at GCS.
