XENIA — Zelpha Koogler, age 98, of Xenia, journeyed home on Friday, December 4, 2020 and is now safe in the arms of Jesus. She was born December 25, 1921 in Clinton County, Ohio, one of 13 children born to William and Nancy (Hilderbrandt) Grooms. She was a life long member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Zelpha retired from Greene Memorial Hospital where she had worked in housekeeping. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles and crosswords. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Zelpha was preceded in death by all of her siblings; her husband of 47 years, Grayson John Koogler in 1988; children: Grayson Theodore Koogler and Cynthia Richmond; 4 grandchildren: Tammy Ann Mickle; Tammie Elizabeth VanWey; Jill Marie Simpson and Sean Allen Hull; great grandchildren: Kayla Jean Richmond and Rowen Newsome; and a daughter-in-law: Pamela Koogler. She is survived by children: Judith (Allen) Hull of NC; Sandra Mickle of Xenia; Rodney (Linda) Koogler of Wilmington; Arlene (Dave) VanWey of Springfield; Daniel (Jan) Koogler and Joyce (James) Simpson, all of Xenia; daughter-in-law: Barbara Koogler; 17 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Dayton in her memory. There will be a graveside service 1 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Medway Cemetery, Medway, Ohio with Pastor Mike Hancock officiating. All are welcome to attend. Social distancing and masks will be required. If you are feeling sick or uncertain, the family understands and appreciates your thoughts and prayers from home.
