Boone Hayes McCrary, 32, of Greeneville passed away Friday trying to rescue someone along with his dog, Moss, during the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene.
He was employed by Greeneville Community Hospital as a registered ER nurse and former longtime supervisor of Donaldson Company.
He was a 2010 graduate of South Greene High School and a 2022 graduate of Walters State Community College.
He was a member of the Greene County Coon Club, Tennessee Bear Hunters Association, and an honorary member of the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department for his bravery during the flood and other times of need.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather: Debbie and Seldon Andrew Fisher; his father and stepmother: Billy Joe and Jeannie McCrary; a sister: Laura McCrary Harville; nieces and nephews: AnnaBelle, Hayes (named after his uncle), Eleanore, Penelope, Lorelei, and Thaddeus Harville; aunts and uncles: Rocky Luster, Darla and David Bowman, Teresa and Rick Kimery, Katrina Seaton, Jackie and Teresa McCrary, Jeff and Julie McCrary, Cliff McCrary, and Frank Seaton; a brother: Ethan McCrary; his grandmother: Gracie McCrary two very special cousins: Chris Seaton and Jacob Luster; cousins: Leslie Kimery, Nathan Kimery, Andrew Luster, Rachel Bowman, Matthew Seaton, Brooke Cawood, Ben Seaton, Braden Seaton, Bradley Seaton, and Kenzie Luster; a special friend and former wife: Christy Massey; a special father figure from another mother: Edward Ricker and his wife Debbie, their daughter, Clarissa and Jimmy Malone and son, Brian; Colton Malone, one of Boone's many hunting sons; and friends: Santana Ray and Hope Moser.
He was preceded in death by Jay V. Luster, Helen Louise Lee, Jack McCrary and Louise and Ralph Payne.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.
The funeral service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Jeffers Downtown Chapel with Pastor Mike Garland officiating.
The burial will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will include Edward Ricker, Rodney Jackson, Pierce Varnadoe, Mason Fann, Dustin Marshall, Wesley Burgess, Derek FRanklin and Steven McGaha.
Honorary pallbearers will include his many hunting dogs, his friends: Allen Lufcy, Cody Rodriquez, Kyle Rodriquez, Robin Cutshall, Marshall Cutshall, Rodney Spillman, Josh Dunn, Patrick Gwinn, James Carter; and his numerous hunting and fishing buddies.
The family wants to thank all of the volunteers, what we have affectionately nicknamed the Boone's Brigade, for your countless hours spent searching and praying.

I see your picture and I would like to think that we could have gotten along had our paths ever crossed. The world lost a great person and I hope your story is told for years to come. Thank you for your selfless actions during the hurricane and everything you did. I hope your family reads these and can smile knowing you are cherished for being the great man you were.
