Charles Greene Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Greene

Born: June 30, 1942 | Died: November 5, 2025

Charles "Charlie" Greene, 83, of Greeneville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Charlie was born and raised in Greeneville, where he spent his life bringing joy to those around him. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

At just 17 years old, Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for three years and learned the trade that would become his lifelong career as a barber.

For 50 years, Charlie worked as a barber - a job that perfectly suited his friendly, talkative nature. He loved meeting people, sharing stories, and making everyone who sat in his chair feel welcome. Outside of work, he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, and especially playing with his great-grandson, Henry, who brought him endless happiness.

Charlie attended Greeneville First Church of God, where he found great joy in worship and fellowship with his church

Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Fodell Greene; daughters, Kathy (David) Tipton and Peggy Rainwater; their mother, Helen Davenport; granddaughter, Dana (Daniel) Chandler; great-grandson, Henry Chandler; grandson, Michael Rainwater; sisters, Wanda Greene and Mitzi Wilhoit; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: John and Debbie Goode; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends Dale & Joann Parman

He was preceded in death by his parents L.T (Doc) and Roxie Greene, his brother Rev. Bobby Greene and his grandson, Justin Tipton.

Charlie's joyful spirit, kindness, and love for life will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 – 3 p.m. on Saturday at First Church of God, 1505 W. Main Street, Greeneville. Funeral services will follow at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the church with Pastors Nathan Leasure and Ralph Shipley officiating.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to Oak Grove Cemetery for the 2 p.m. committal service.

Pallbearers will be David Tipton, Daniel Chandler, Dale Parman, Michael Rainwater, Chad Dalton, and Reid Phillips.
