Chester Purgason Obituary
Chester Purgason, 93, of Mohawk, the McDonald community, a beloved husband and father, passed away Wednesday peacefully at his home.
Chester was the recipient of the Bronze Star of Valor for his heroism during the Korean War.
His career included part ownership in several businesses in Greenville, including an auto parts store and Quick Lube.
Chester was a Christian and an active member of Fairview Baptist Church in Mohawk.
He was also active in the community as a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and several other organizations.
Survivors include his wife: Deborah Purgason; a daughter: Jayne DuBose; sons-in-law: Kevin DuBose and Larry Lamb; grandchildren: Laura Lamb (Katharine Duckett) and Todd (Jess) Lamb; great-grandchildren: Erin and Anna; sisters-in-law: Mary Walker, Peg (Duke) Goff, and Beulah Purgason; many special nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step-grandchildren.
Chester was preceded in death by his first wife: Selma Fox Purgason; a daughter: Joyce Lamb; his parents: Wayne and Annie Mae Purgason; and a brother: Cleve Purgason.
In keeping with Chester's wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral.
A graveside service for the family will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
