Donald S. "Duck" Weems, of the Lost Mountain community, passed away Monday.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Cecil and Nell Weems; a brother: Roy Weems; a sister: Norma Jean Thompson; and his wife of 49 years: Joyce Weems.
He is survived by two nephews: Jeff (Yvonnda) Weems of Johnson City, whom he and his wife helped raise and have been caretakers for the past four years, Marty (Susan) Weems of Pheonix, Arizona; and two great-nephews: Denver (Cyndal) Weems of Milton, and Caleb Weems (Lost Mountain); three great-nieces; Tasha (Viktor) Ply of Germany, Lacy Allen of Michigan and Kaci (Joey) Large of Kansas.
The family expresses a special thank you to special friend, Rosie Crenshaw, special caregivers, Michelle Delotto, Kristina Weaver, and Helen Weems, and thank you to Gentiva Hospice, especially Brittany, Leisa, Melanie, and Cynthia for their loving care and compassion during his last days.
Pallbearers will be Stan Neal, Jerome Brandon, Theron Carter, Brennan Carter, Denver Weems, Caleb Weems, and Russell Frye. Honorary pall bearers will be Wayne Beran, Doug Mrock, Tony Bailey, Otis Roberts, Dale Rogers, and Allen "Snooks" Weems.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in Jeffers Downtown Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Malone and Bronson Carter officiating.
The graveside service will be Friday at noon in Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
