Geneva Mae Carter Brotherton
Died: November 1, 2025
"The Lord is my Shepherd". Psalms 23:1
Geneva Mae Carter Brotherton, age 94, of the Romeo Community, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Geneva's life was a reflection of God's grace, strength, love and humility. She was devoted to the Lord and to her family.
Geneva raised five children through hard work, sacrifice, prayer and a steadfast belief that God would always provide. Her quiet strength and deep love shaped the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and all who were blessed to know her. She was best remembered for her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and her ability to find joy and gratitude in life's simple blessings. To her, faith was not something she spoke about – it was the way she lived every day. Her legacy of love, laughter, perseverance and steadfast faith will live on in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
Her home was always open, her kitchen always warm, and her table always full. Whether it was a Sunday after church dinner or a simple weekday meal, everyone was welcome to pull up a chair and put their feet under her kitchen table. She loved to cook for others, and countless memories and laughter were shared over her delicious meals. She, in particular, enjoyed the smiles her brownies and stickies brought to her family.
Known by many names - Mom, Granny, Nannie, Aunt Neat, and Mrs. B - she was dearly loved by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She was an active member of Romeo Church where she served in numerous capacities throughout her lifetime. Her favorite role in church was being the song leader. Her card ministry became a beautiful way for her to share her faith and uplift others.
She was an employee of Sam Moore Chair Company and later retired from Greene Valley Developmental Center. In an effort to continue to serve others, she joined the Foster Grandparent program. Within the program, Geneva nurtured the students at both Baileyton and Ottway Elementary schools with her unconditional love. Despite her declining health, she remained dedicated to serving her community through her volunteer work at Northern Greene County Ministry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kent Brotherton; her parents, Robert Gordon "Buster" and Ollie Carter; brother and sister-in-law, Robert "Joe Dick" and Gladys Carter; sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Lacy Weems and nephew, Gary Weems.
Geneva is survived by her five children, Dr. Larry (Carmen) Brotherton, Michael (Vona) Brotherton, Judy Massey, Brenda (James) Collins, Linda (Allen) Evans. 15 grandchildren, Scott (Melody) Brotherton, Christopher (Leesa) Brotherton, Season (George) Mauger, Kari (Jason) Foshie, Kenton (Lindsay) Brotherton, Cristy (Tony) Ricker, Sheena (Ben) Tullock, Ricky (Lindsey) Presley, Shannon (Joe) Waddell, Shane (Patty) Ball, Tanner (Logan) Collins, Chad (Brielle) Collins, Victoria Collins, Justin (Brittanie) Evans, Lindsey Evans. 39 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
