Jackson David Antoine Flanders, 10, of Greeneville, passed away May 5 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
He is survived by his mother: Allison Flanders; and his grandmother: Arleen Flanders both of Greeneville; an uncle: Stan Boyd of Nashville; a sister: Kamri Merriweather; an aunt: Summer Merriweather; and his grandparents: Ronnie and Mable Merriweather, all of Greeneville.
He was preceded in death by his father: Ronnie Merriweather Jr. of Greeneville; an aunt: Kelly Flanders Boyd of Nashville; his grandfather: David Flanders of Greeneville; and his great-grandparents: Stanley and Gloria Kovac of Greeneville.
Jackson was born in Nashville and grew up in Greeneville, where he was a fourth-grader at EastView Elementary and attended the after-school program at the Greene County YMCA.
He loved swimming, riding his bicycle, playing soccer, batting baseballs into a net in his back yard, and attending Greeneville Reds baseball games. His favorite video game was Roblox and loved watching TikTok. He also expressed himself through singing and dancing. Jackson loved animals, especially his dog, River.
Fellow students and teachers remember his sassy attitude and how he made them laugh. He loved spending time with his friends and classmates. They remember the way in which he expressed himself - gesturing with his hand, talking quickly with his expressive eyes and an adorable smile.
Jackson was very observant of the people around him and quick to share his thoughts and opinions on them, a witty wisdom that resulted in amusement and laughter. He loved engaging with people of all ages and walks of life; all the cashiers and workers at Publix greeted him on a first-name basis.
Many families in Greeneville considered him part of their own. He was loved by his family, neighbors, classmates, teachers, and many others in the community.
A memorial service will be June 3 at 11 a.m. in the Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home Chapel.
Donations in Jackson's memory can be made to the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society online or by mail at P.O. Box 792, Greeneville, TN 37744.
