Madge Pierce Britton

Born: August 13, 1925 | Died: March 16, 2026

Madge Pierce Britton, age 100, went to be with her Lord on Monday.

She attended Bridges Chapel Church of God as long as her health permitted. Madge was known for her "school" rolls and cinnamon rolls, She was called the "Bread Lady" for many years by many customers and friends.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Pat and Mike Hopson of Greeneville; two sons an daughters-in-law: Terry and Karen Britton of Afton, Jerry and Eileen Britton of New Albany, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Sherri White (Eddie Feezell Jr.) of Afton, Carrie Street of Elizabethton, Tera (Bobby) Willett of Johnson City, Ryan and Rachel Britton of the Philippines, Talia Britton, Trent Britton both of Afton, and Thomas Britton of Bloomington, Indiana; six great-grandchildren: Makenzie White of Afton, Kamron Britton of Afton, Kingston Shell of Greeneville, Isabelle Street of Elizabethton, Emma Britton and Bruce Britton both of the Philippines; sister-in-law: Geraldine Pierce; several special nieces, nephews, and friends; special friends: Carolyn and Bill Burgess, Cheryl and Terry Noland, Tammy and Lee Ervin. Madge is also survived by three generations of "kids" from Newmansville Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years: Jack Britton in 2004; parents: James English and Rose Grubbs Pierce; brothers: Paul (Pearl) Pierce, Jim Pierce; sisters: Mary (Wayne) Brown, Helen (Jack) Jones, Betty (Minnis) Taylor and a baby sister; special "grandson"- Brian Shell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Bonnie (Lavane) Kimery, Mary Grace (Talmadge Tullock & Shelby Graham) Graham, Mildred (Johnny Bill) Gaddis, Denzil Vaughn, Lucy Dell (Bill) Babb, Johnny (Freda) Britton, and Willie (Grace) Britton.

Special thanks to her caregivers: Terry, Karen, and Trent Britton.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 and 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Doughty-Stevens Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Gammill officiating. Interment will follow in Cross Anchor Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Brown, Thomas Britton, Trent Britton, Kingston Shell, Makenzie White, Randy Pierce, Bobby Willett, and Nathan Kimery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Jones, Dale Jones, Joe Jones, Steve Taylor, Kamron Britton, Mike Street, Randy Kimery, Ronnie Tullock, Bobbie Tullock, and Eddie Feezell.
