Raymond E. Shipley, 85, of the Houston Valley community, passed away Sunday morning at Greeneville Community Hospital East.
He attended Flag Branch Church of God as long as his health permitted.
He served in the Tennessee National Guard from 1956-64.
Raymond retired from the Tennessee Department of Transportation Engineering after 45 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed working on the family farm.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Veldena Shipley; one daughter: Kimberly Shipley; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Edward and Betty Davis, and Shirley Davis; a niece: Joy (Craig) Malone; nephews: Wayne (Teonia) Davis, Nicholas (Traci) Davis; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Dora Shipley; an infant brother: Billy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Walter and Virgie Davis; and a brother-in-law: Buddy Davis.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Saturday to go in procession to GreeneLawn Memory Gardens for the 2 p.m. committal service. The Rev. Willis Bowers will officiate.
Pallbearers will include Alan Shipley, Nicholas Davis, Wayne Davis, Craig Malone, Brandon Babb, Zachery Babb, Cody Hopson, and Tony Darnell.
Honorary pallbearers will include the retired TDOT employees, Lewis Shipley, Gary White, Roger Pleasant, Randy Tweed, Ivan Collins, and Marvin Renner.
The family expresses a special thanks to he nurses and doctors at Greeneville Community Hospital Fourth Floor, Leah Rodgers, PA, and staff at Summit Medical Group.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the South Greene Fire Department or charity of the donors choice.
