William Harold Murray

William Harold Murray, 87, passed away Saturday morning at Johnson City Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Frances Murray.

Harold was a devoted husband and father who took great pleasure in providing for his family through upholstering, carpentry, and cabinetmaking. Sadly, he suffered dementia during the final years of his life.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved children: Virgil Murray and Lorraine Renner; a loyal son-in-law: Ted Renner; four precious grandchildren: Tabitha (Josh) Quillen, Anna (Adam) Boles, Nathan (Kaylea) Renner, and Jonathan (Megan) Renner; a darling great-granddaughter: Railey Quillen; a special friend: Lisa Hilton; a special little friend: Zarek Ottinger; and a former daughter-in-law: Karen Murray. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Shirley Ward, Ruby (J.C.) Jennings, Nadine (David) Barnett, and Vickie Randolph; and many special nieces, nephews, and their spouses.

In addition to his wife, he was welcomed into heaven by his parents: Daisy and Joe Murray; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Ella Mae and Delzie Randolph. He was also preceded in death by his sisters and their spouses: Juanita Murray, Etella (Wallace) Coffee, Eualia (Darryl) Broyles, Willa Dean (Dennis) Bryant, and Shelby Fox; his brothers: J.D. Murray, Vestal Murray, Leland Murray, and Herbert (Ann) Murray; his sister-in-law: Lois Hensley (Uyless); and a brother-in-law: J.D. Randolph.

Harold was a faithful Christian who taught his children the love of our Heavenly Father. He loved Southern Gospel music, and his favorite group was the original Inspirations Quartet. He learned shape-note singing at an early age, and enjoyed singing bass like his father before him. He was a member of Kingsley Avenue Free Will Baptist Church where he attended as long as his health permitted.

There will be no formal visitation.

A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Cedar Grove Cemetery. THe Rev. Doyle Pruitt will officiate.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Kingsley Avenue Free Will Baptist Church or Cedar Grove Cemetery.
