Barbara Ann (Long) Slone 77, of New Palestine Indiana passed away peacefully with family by her side at Ashford Place Health Campus, Shelbyville Indiana on November 26, 2025 after a courageous battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.
She was born on March 2, 1948 in
Indianapolis, Indiana to Leo long and Nellie (Spears) Leach. Barbara was a 1966 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School Barbara worked at RCA in the 1960s. She was an aerobic instructor at Elaine Powers and the YMCA. She was a custom frame designer at Hobby Lobby. She also worked as a Claims Examiner at OneAmerica Financial, which she retired from in 2016. Barbara was a member of Southeastern Church Of Christ.
Barbara was the president of the PTA at Indianapolis Public School 82 where she wrote and choreographed the school's Christmas plays in the 1970's. Barbara was an avid New Palestine Marching Band mom. She volunteered for feeding the homeless through God's Open Arms. She also volunteered with the Democratic Party. She participated in several walks for Answers For Autism, the
Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the
American Heart Association. Barbara was a part of the walking flag in the Indianapolis 500 Festival parade.
Barbara enjoyed traveling with her family to Walt Disney World, Gatlinburg, New York City and all over the country. she also enjoyed going to concerts movies and the Indiana Repertory Theatre.
Barbara married the love of her life James E. Slone on September 3, 1966. After a wonderful 51 years of marriage, he passed away March 2, 2018. She is survived by her three children, Jill (Shane) Ailey, Jennifer (Matt) Agee, James (Kary) Slone Jr., three grandchildren, Drew Agee, Madison and Matthew Slone; sisters, Carolyn (Eddie) Lyon, Sheila (Charlie) Holliday; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Barbara was proceeded in death by her Husband James E. Slone, her parents Leo Long, Nellie Leach, stepdad Ralph Leach and infant sister, Janet Long.

Visitation for Barbara will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5:00-8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street,
Indianapolis, IN 46229. Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 1:00pm with burial to follow.
