James Richard Barnes Obituary
Jim worked in Quality Control for Ford Motor Company for forty-eight years before retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Oakland Masonic Lodge #140 and the Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. Jim was a Real Estate Broker, Custom Home Builder, and former owner of Westside Pizza in New Palestine. He was an avid Colts fan, being a season ticket holder for many years. He enjoyed watching and supporting his grandkids at sporting events, enjoyed writing short stories, poetry, and even had some poetry published in magazines.
He is survived by his sons, David Barnes and James Richard "Rick" Barnes, Jr.; daughter, Julie Barnes Munson; grandchildren, Justin (Meredith) Stone, Lesley (Garet) Grimes, Nathan (Kaytlyn) Barnes, Patrick Munson, Alayna (Brock) Blackwell, and Sophia Munson; and great-grandchildren, Jase Stone, Oliver Grimes, and Brantley Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Barnes; and daughter-in-law, Nyla Barnes.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the mortuary with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Wayne Scott will be officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
