Mary Cooley Obituary
Mary Louise Cooley, 95, of Greenfield, went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Sunday, November 16, 2025, following a brief illness.
She was born on January 25, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late L.L. and Thelma Elizabeth (Bundy) Newton.
Mary was the valedictorian of the Charlottesville High School class of 1948. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Charles O. Cooley, whom she married on June 6, 1948. Early in life, she worked for American States Insurance Agency in Indianapolis and at the Hancock County Clerk's office in the early 70's. Her greatest joys were being a homemaker, mother, and grandmother.
Mary's love for the Lord and her sharing of Jesus was paramount in everything she did. "Jesus is Faithful" was the phrase for which Mary was most known. She was a faithful online member of Bethel Church in Redding, CA.
Early in life, Mary was a trained opera singer, and she enjoyed singing, sewing, and crocheting. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing for her children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her three children, Charlasu "Susie" (Daniel) Hunt of Carthage, Newton (Janet) Cooley of Germantown, Ohio, and Maralasu "Mesu" (Roy) Andrews of Fort Wayne; her grandchildren, Graham (Tabby) Hunt, Gretchen (Andrew) Lee, Jennifer (Adam) Wetzel, Julia Hunt, Judy (Kenneth) Wipf, Ginger (Travis) Wipf, Grant (Tara) Hunt, Jedidiah (Anna) Hunt, Joy (Rayson) Warren, Johanna Hunt, Heidi (Thad) Reiste, Joshua (Jennifer) Cooley, Laura (Brandon) Blackwell, Hans (Lori) Cooley, Joni (Joe) Reeves, Bruce (Brett) Cooley, Amanda Thomas, John Fowler, Katrina (Jason) Bonham, Emily (Brad) King, and many great and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hardy of Greenfield, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles O. Cooley; a granddaughter, Linda LeAnne Cooley; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Righteous Oaks Baptist Church in Wilkinson with Dr. Roy Andrews officiating, followed by burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.
Friends may call on Friday at the church from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral.
