Coker, Aaron Douglas

April 7, 1974 - November 10, 2020

It is with great sadness that a beloved son, brother and friend left this world unexpectedly November 10, 2020. He is survived by his Mom, Denyse Ward Coker of Greensboro and his brother Adam Ward Coker (Amanda). Aaron is now reunited with his Dad, Farrell Douglas Coker. He is also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Artemus Alva Ward and Mae Teeter Ward of Greensboro and his paternal grandparents, Ralph Eugene Coker and Lena McCaskill Coker of Robbins, NC.

Aaron was a 1993 graduate of Grimsley High School. He graduated from UNC Greensboro in 2001, with a double major in English and Religious Studies. He had a passion and love for music and a unique creativity that inspired many. A talented writer, he also enjoyed reading, the arts and living life. Aaron worked in the restaurant business with some of the best chefs in Greensboro for over 30 years and took great pride in his work and the people he served.

Aaron is lovingly remembered by his aunts and uncles – Gail Haworth (Brooks) Greensboro; Jane Coker Robbins; Lloyd Ward (Wini) La Grange, NC; Wanda Ward Watkins of Greensboro; Duane Ward (Sherry) Wilmington, NC and Tami Ward Gilmore (Clyde) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He is also survived by his nephew and niece Eliott Coker and Zoe Grace Coker. Aaron had many cousins he loved dearly and they adored him.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Aaron's memory to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Guilford, PO Box 10557, Greensboro, NC 27404 or Mental Health Greensboro, 700 Walter Reed Drive, Greensboro, NC 27403, or your favorite charity.

Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel is serving the family. Services are incomplete due to Covid. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.

We shared some good times together. I teased him that I could find him no matter where he was. When I did surprise him he couldn´t believe it. Lots of fun at the beach with Jackson.

I am so saddened to know that Aaron is no longer with us.
I fondly remember he and I always convincing people we would meet together that we were brothers. We met in the early '90's and were always happy to run into each throughout the years. I always respected his intellect, humor, wit, charm and antics, oh my goodness the antics!
Aaron's brighter days will always be the ones I remember best. His love of music, passion for entertainment, quirky looks, and serious conversations are part of the tapestry of my formative and adult years.
I am really going to miss him.

I taught Aaron at UNCG in the early to mid-90's. He was a talented, curious, courteous soul, eager to learn and encouraging to his class mates. I would run into him over the years before I left Greensboro and we would always have a nice chat. I am so sorry to hear of his death and will remember him always as that eager, inquisitive kid who showed up in one of my fiction writing classes ready to learn as much as he could.

Denise, you probably don´t remember me, but we went to Pyramids together many years ago. That´s when I leaned the horrible story of your husband´s. When I saw the obit with the last name Coker, I held my breath and read it. I can´t even imagine the pain of losing a son. I am so, so sorry. I will be praying fervently for you.

Denyse, Adam, and family, you are so very much in our thoughts and prayers. What a beautiful picture and of your son! I did not know him personally, but what was written gave me a sense of the intelligent, loving, hard working, skilled, and sensitive person that he must have been. I so wish I had known him.
