Anita Carter Wilson
Salisbury - Anita Carter Wilson, 74, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on January 1, 2023 at the Virginia Casey Unit of Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab in Salisbury, NC. She had been living with frontal temporal dementia for 10 years.
A gathering to celebrate her memory and those she loved will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Morehead-Fair House, 420 Boone Rd., Eden, NC 27288. A private family burial will be held prior to the gathering on January 14, 2023.
Anita was born on March 19, 1948 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late Emory Frank Carter and Ella Sue Linkenhoker Carter. She was the middle of three children, attended Bluefield High School and then UNC-Greensboro, where she earned a BS in early childhood education. Later, she earned a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Georgia State University and a master's degree in supervision from UNC-Greensboro. Her professional love was the education of young children, teaching K-3 at Central Elementary School in Eden, NC and later being the assistant principal at The Downtown School in Winston-Salem, NC. After her retirement, she taught children's literature at Salem College and read to children at the Children's Museum. Her non-professional love, after the family, was playing tennis. She was a proud member of USTA and played women's doubles on several teams.
Anita is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Wilson of Salisbury; two children, Amy Wilson (Benjamin Ott) of Salisbury and Brian Wilson (Rachel) of Garner, NC; three grandchildren, Ethan Ott, Emma Ott, and Marley Wilson; sister Linda Crowder of Marion, VA; brother Emory Frank Carter, Jr. (Iris) of Greenville, SC; sister-in-law June Hundley (Bob) of Spencer, NC; and brother-in-law Lawrence Wilson (Fran) of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
