Bettie Louise Laws Hicks, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at High Point Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hicks will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, at Gospel Baptist Church, 5945 N. Church Street in Greensboro. The family will greet friends beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Wilson Primitive Baptist Church in Walnut Cove.

Bettie was born in Guilford County on February 18, 1934, the daughter of the late Zollie and Nora Marshall Laws. She was a long-time member of McLeansville Baptist Church, but in recent years attended Gospel Baptist with her daughter. She was retired from Ruzicka Book Bindery. Bettie cherished times spent with her grandchildren, tending her flower gardens, cooking and baking. She loved her church and God.

She was the last surviving of her 10 brothers and sisters, and was preceded in death by a son, William Dennis Shearin.

Surviving are her husband, Edward B. Hicks; daughter Betty Ann Champion and her husband, Rick, of Reidsville; 3 grandchildren Dylan Champion (Sarah), Amy Zimmerman (Phillip), and Mandy Champion; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be directed to McLeansville Baptist Church, 5205 Frieden Church Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.
