GREENSBORO BETTY JEAN (Jeannie) Gordh passed away August 22, 2014, following a brief illness in the Intensive Care Unit at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.Jeannie was born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 8, 1941, and was a talented and creative artist from childhood. She studied art at the University of Georgia as a traditional student (where she was also a majorette) and later at Guilford College as a continuing education student. At various times she did book illustrations; Christmas cards for the Children's Home Society; original lamps for the High Point furniture market; and study, teaching and projects involving the art of calligraphy. When health issues made serious work in calligraphy too physically demanding she turned to quilting and created original, award-winning quilts. She was an Emerita Member of the Guilford College Art Appreciation Club.She is survived by her husband George (Rudy) Gordh of thirty-five years; her sister Rebecca Clary and nephews Stephen Clary and Todd Clary of Atlanta, GA; her son Wesley Lampkin, wife Cammie Lampkin, and grandchildren Abbey and Joshua of Hickory, NC; her husband's siblings Bob Gordh and wife Trudy of Inglewood, CA, Bill Gordh and wife Jenny of New York, NY, and Lyn Gordh and husband Oscar of Madison, WI; her husband's nephews William, Daniel and Cody Gordh and nieces Anna and Rachel Gordh.Jeannie lived for many years with chronic pain and other difficult medical conditions. She remained a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend and wanted all who supported her to know how much she appreciated their love and kindnesses. She will be remembered and missed by many.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Garden Friends Meeting, 801 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410. Although too ill to attend in recent years, Jeannie was a longtime member of the Meeting where she once served as clerk of the Nominating Committee and participated actively in publishing Friendly Woman.A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held at New Garden Friends Meeting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014.Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is assisting the family.
