Craig, Brenda

Brenda Louise Craig, 74, passed away peacefully on July 31 of natural causes. She was born in Roanoke, Va., to Claude and Clarice "Buddy" Craig. She excelled in sports and academics and was offered prestigious college scholarships. She chose to study at UNC Greensboro, where she played a number of sports. After graduating with a degree in physical education, Brenda served as a teacher and instructor. She returned to the UNCG community to live and work in security. Her interest in law enforcement also led her to security positions at N.C. A&T State University and Wake Forest University, where she was employed at the time of her death. Brenda was well known among students, faculty, and staff at UNCG, where she volunteered daily at the Smith Campus Ministries Center and with Wesley-Luther at the Spartan Open Pantry. A generation of students came to know and appreciate Brenda for the way she listened to them, helped them, and encouraged them. Brenda was a person of quiet faith who found God in service toward others and in the value of every person, every creature, and every plant. A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, September 25, at College Place United Methodist Church, 509 Tate St. Memorials may be made to the Spartan Athletics Scholarship Fund or the Spartan Open Pantry.

Brenda and I were best friends in High School, however, sadly, we lost touch when I went in the military. I am deeply saddened by her passing. She will be missed by all that knew her.

I grieve as well as celebrate with the UNCG Community the passing of our Ms. Brenda. Always a smile, a word of support and encouragement and a well trained "listening ear", Brenda was a welcome and comforting presence especially for the students at the Smith Campus Ministries Center. She was truly an "ambassador" for the Center. May you Rest In Peace my friend!!
