Carol Hankeison Obituary

Carol Sue Hankeison (82) of Greensboro, NC passed away December 3, 2025, at Advent Health Zephyrhills. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on December 12, 2025, at Guilford Memorial Park with Pastor Joe Brinkle officiating. Sue was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was affectionately referred to as the boss by her family because of the family's activities and get togethers. She was born in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio which is in Montgomery County. She grew up in Shawnee Hills Ohio and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Dublin Coffman High School. After high school, she attended college at Ohio State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education. She was a huge Buckeyes fan and watched games right up until her passing with her good friend, Albert. While at Ohio State University, she met the love of her life Richard Stout Hankeison. From then on, they were inseparable until his passing in 2022. She was his rock, and he was her shadow and now the two are together again. Sue went to work for the Federal Census Bureau in 1986 and her ability to get folks to open their doors and invite her into their homes as a friend, not as a census employee, led to many awards and letters of accommodation. She received numerous promotions during her 30-plus year career and as a supervisor, always stressed the importance of seeing people as human beings, not assignments. As important as her career was, Sue always stressed that faith and family came first. Along with her husband Richard, she purchased a lake house (The Cottage) that became the central hub for activities with friends and family. She loved to swim, fish, and cook out. No one was allowed to leave until they had eaten at least one hamburger and hotdog. Later in life, she followed a path started by her father (Charles) and mother (Betty) and became a snowbird as her and her husband began spending winters in Zephyrhills, FL. As driving became more difficult, Sue purchased two homes in Florida Estates Retirement Community and became a member of the New River Church, which is in Wesley Chapel, FL. At Florida Estates clubhouse, she started a Thursday Teatime group and a Birthday Cake celebration once a month for anyone in the park who had a birthday that month. She would always say everyone deserves to have their birthday celebrated. Sue truly loved her family, neighbors Debbie, Gay, Larry, Lyn, Vic, Marlyn, Marge, and all the other members of her church and community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Emerson Huff and Betty Curmode Huff; her husband Richard Stout Hankeison and her sisters, Patty Lou Showalter and Sandy Lee Lewis. Surviving are her sons, Scott Allen Hankeison and Gregory Charles Hankeison and wife Wendy; sister-in-law Marilyn Hamwey; cousin (Brother) Tommy Margold; cousin (Sister) Gina Morgan and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel is honored to serve the Hankeison family.

I met Sandi at work back in the 80´s and through her eventually your whole family. I worked for your Mom at Dadio´s.
I thought about your Mom a lot and just wish I would´ve reached out. Sorry to see your Dad has passed and now her.
She was a good friend and my prayers are with your family.
