Denise was a brilliant nurse who began her career in the Moses Cone Coronary Intensive Care Unit in 1980. She was a cofounder of the LeBauer Cardiovascular Research Foundation where she spent the majority of her career. Her colleagues regarded her as a strong patient advocate and a passionate supporter of the importance of clinical trials in guiding future protocols for heart care. Denise's hard work and dedication contributed to the development of practices that are still implemented in the field today.

Family and friends remember Denise as a vivacious free spirit who welcomed everyone with open arms. She was bold and determined with a zest for life. She loved to dance, read books, listen to the rain and thunderstorms, and was always happiest at the beach or eating anything chocolate. Her granddaughters brought her immense joy and she would have been the best grandmother to a third grandchild that's on the way.

I have so many precious memories of Denise from nursing school and working in CCICU. She was a brilliant nurse! The world was a better place because she passed through.
