JULIAN Donna Lawrence Sugg passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was 54. She fought a courageous battle against a brain tumor with which she was diagnosed in April 1988, at just 25 years old. Over the next 29 years, she endured two brain surgeries (1988 and 2007), two rounds of multiple radiation treatments (1998 and 2012) and countless chemotherapy and similar treatments between 1998 and 2016. She was released from further treatment in February 2016, at which time she began Hospice care at home. Donna was born June 25, 1962 in Asheville, NC. She attended Western Guilford before graduating from East Mecklenburg High School in 1980. From there she attended Western Carolina University, where she met the love of her life, Joe Sugg. She and Joe married on August 15, 1982. They had two children and were married for 34 years. Donna loved being on the water at Lake Norman, was an avid Tarheel fan and cared for her dog Chance, like her third child, but nothing came before her family and friends. Being sick from chemo or bald from radiation, she made it a point to never miss a ball game or dance recital. And you always knew she was there, bringing the loudest cheers in the room and her continuously infectious smile. She never met a stranger in her life and was known by most of the Southeast Guilford wrestling team as "Momma Sugg." Donna was preceded in death by her father, James Garrett Lawrence, maternal grandparents Ernest Lester Giles and Mattie Rush Giles, and paternal grandmother Cordie Garrett Lawrence. She is survived by her mother, Geraldine Lawrence of Greensboro; her husband, Joe Sugg, Jr.; her only son, Garrett (Nicole) Sugg of Rock Hill; her only daughter, Ashlyn Sugg of Greensboro; her only grandson, Brayden Sugg of Rock Hill; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and mother-in-law. A memorial service will be held at Alamance Presbyterian Church in Greensboro on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Robert Preston Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke in Durham.
