Doris Vernon Roberts, 81, of Stokesdale, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Ellisboro Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at Doris' home.
Doris was born on November 9, 1943, in Rockingham County to the late Willie Kitchen Vernon and Della Rakestraw Vernon. She worked for Vicks/Proctor & Gamble for twenty-three years. Doris was a faithful and dedicated member of Ellisboro Baptist Church, where she served on numerous committees throughout her many years of membership. She tirelessly devoted herself to the EBC Toy Store, bringing joy to countless children and families. Known for her humble and giving spirit, Doris was a caregiver to many in her community, always ready to lend a helping hand.
An excellent cook, Doris shared her talents often with her community and by working the concessions at the Huntsville Ballpark and 311 Speedway. Above all, Doris deeply loved her family and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the sparkle they brought to her eyes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Roberts; and her siblings, Willie Ray Vernon, Paul Junior Vernon, Elsie Lemons, Gladys Goins and Dorothy Watson.
Survivors include her children, Bobby Roberts, Jr. and wife, Wendy and Susan Tilley and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Holly Tilley Manuel and husband, Jason, Chase Roberts Tilley and Kayla Jean Roberts and fiancé, Danny Levstek; great-grandchildren, Liam Rhett Manuel and Harper Tilley Manuel; brother, Steve Franklin Vernon; sister, Nannie Kate Fulp; longtime friend, Pauline Hand and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to thank the 5th floor and ICU staff at Moses Cone Hospital for their attentive and compassionate care.
