Allen, Dorothy "Dot" Allred

February 3, 1925 - November 15, 2020

Dorothy 'Dot' Mae Allred Allen, 95, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, NC. A graveside service for family and friends will take place 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, NC with Rev. Jim Groome officiating.

Dot was born in Randolph County on the family farm. She told interesting stories about her life growing up and was the keeper of the family history. After graduating from Providence High School, she moved to Greensboro to work at Southern Bell Telephone (now AT&T). She continued her career with a move to Dallas, NC and after 38 years of service retired, becoming an active member of the Telephone Pioneers. She and Lawrence moved back to their roots in Randolph County to enjoy their retirement years on part of the family farm. She loved to crochet and won honors for her work at the NC State Fair. She also loved to work jigsaw puzzles and at 72 she took up bowling and participated in a league for over twenty years. Dot was also known for the wonderful pound cakes she made and shared. Dorothy was a strong, quiet woman, who was always there to help her family and friends. She was loved and will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie C. and Amanda Hinshaw Allred, and her husband of 66 years, Grady Lawrence Allen. Survivors: sons: Robert L. Allen (Donna) of Liberty, NC and Richard M. Allen (Cynthia) of Climax, NC; grandsons: Chris Allen (Amy) of Harrisburg, PA, Cory Allen (Cathy) of Apex, NC, John Allen and David Allen of Climax, NC; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Grace, Michael and Daniel Allen of Apex, NC; brother, Hubert W. Allred (Bettye) of Climax, NC.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Clapp's and her Hospice caregivers for their kindness and support. Dot was a very practical woman, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel UMC (c/o R.L. Allen, 3871 Randolph Church Road, Liberty, NC 27298) or a charity of your choice.

So sorry for your loss. Mrs Allen was a beautiful lady. I cared for at clapp many times when she was on the green hall and remember seeing her sons came everyday to see her. I never knew until now that Mrs Allen and her husband were best friends with my uncle and aunt, Paul and Reba swann. Its a small world. My prayers are with the family. Pam swann Ballard
