Eugene Mozzoni Obituary

Mozzoni, Eugene Joseph

September 21, 1939 - December 24, 2020

Eugene (Gene) Joseph Mozzoni, 81, a resident of Port St Lucie, FL died Thursday morning, December 24, 2020, at his residence. Gene was born September 21, 1939, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late Eugenio Arturo and Marie Rita Mozzoni.

Gene graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence RI in 1957 and entered the workforce to support his family after his father started receiving treatment for lung cancer. Although Gene did not go to college right after graduating from LaSalle Academy, he kept his dream alive of one day receiving his degree, which he did in 1978 from Providence College. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in business administration.

On August 5, 1961, Gene married Nancy Burnum. They were married for over 50 years until her death in 2014. Gene was then re-married to Sandra Brayton of Warwick, RI. They lived in Port St. Lucie until his death. Gene is survived by his 4 children: Michaelle Starr and husband David of Greensboro, NC, Eugene Mozzoni and wife Melinda of Dover, NH, Renee Jarrett and husband James of Greensboro, NC, and Mark Mozzoni and wife Jamie of Trinity, NC. Gene is also survived by his sister, Eleanor D'Amico of Estero, FL, his brother David Mozzoni and wife Carol of Stuart, FL, and his brother Michael Mozzoni and wife Helen of Bridgton, ME. He was a wonderful grandfather to his 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Gene worked for Leesona for 50+ years and retired as the Vice President of Operations. Gene was also a proud member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard for 20 years, serving as a Corrosion Control Technician. He retired from the Air Guard in 1982 when he moved to Greensboro NC. Gene's dedication to his family and this great nation inspired his sons and 3 grandchildren to also enter the service. They served and are currently serving in the NH Air National Guard, US Navy, US Army, and the US Marine Corps.

Upon moving to Greensboro, NC in 1982, Gene and Nancy enjoyed the close-knit neighborhood at Anson Circle. They developed long-lasting friendships with many of the neighbors. While working and caring for 4 kids, Gene also made time to serve on council boards, in the Knights of Columbus, and on the board for the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers. In Gene's retirement years, he enjoyed golfing and getting back to woodworking, building wooden trains and toys for his grandkids.

Due to COVID, there will not be a service at this time. A memorial mass and service for family and friends will be held in Greensboro, NC in the summer of 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gene's memory to LaSalle Academy, Providence RI. La Salle Academy Give Now Providence, RI (myschoolapp.com)

So sorry for all the pain and medical problems you have had this past year. You enjoyed living at the lake in our home town of Port St. Lucie. We had a lot of fun as teenagers going to Rhodes or LaSalle dances. You always wanted your Mom to go to see your aunt in Warwick, so you could swing by my house near Rocky Point. God be with you. Love, Sandra

Gene was always a pleasure to be around. I have many found memories of our time together as Boy Scout leaders.
