REIDSVILLE EULIE SAM AIKEN, JR., 87, OF REIDSVILLE, passed away Friday, June 12, 2015 at the NC State Veterans Nursing Home.Born November 7, 1927 in Allendale, SC, he was the son of the late Virginia Dunbar Aiken and Eulie Aiken, Sr.While in the US Army, he served in the Korean War and continued service with the National Guard. He later served many years as an Army recruiter. His devotion to the military and its discipline earned him the loving nickname of "Sarge" by his family and friends.He completed various trade schools and owned/operated a masonry company in Philadelphia, PA. He later worked for Carolina Steel and Sears DTS Trucking before retiring in civilian life.Eulie enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening and sharing stories of times past with friends and family. Prior his passing, he was deeply involved in the church and chapel service at the NC State Veterans Nursing Home.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ula Paige-Aiken; son, James Aiken; and brother, James Aiken.Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Christopher Aiken (Tracey) of Raleigh, David Aiken (Marcquisha) of Greensboro, Tyrone Aiken (Janika) of Reidsville, Eula Aiken Johnson (Allen, III) of Greensboro and Virginia Aiken of Raleigh; sisters, Sallie, Dorothy, Florence, Willette, and LueMisher; grandchildren, Cam'Ron Aiken, Josiah Aiken, Jayla Aiken, and a host of step-children, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews.Visitation will be from 11-11:45 AM Friday (June 19) at Summersett Funeral Home followed by a Noon graveside service conducted by the National Guard and Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard at the Salisbury VA National Cemetery.Condolences: www.summersettfuneralhome.com
