Frances Tucker Obituary

EDEN Frances Brock Tucker, 91, of Eden, passed away August 23, 2017, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. A funeral service will be held at Fair Funeral Home on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10 until 11). Frances was born April 21, 1926, in Mocksville, NC, to Burr Coley and Laura Tabor Brock. She graduated from Farmington High School and UNC-Greensboro (Women's College). As part of her graduate studies, Frances did a dietary internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She worked as a dietician in hospitals in Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, and Hartford, CT. She married Dr. Basil M. Tucker on August 11, 1951, and eventually moved to his hometown, Leaksville, NC, now Eden. After marriage, she was employed in the accounting department at Fieldcrest, Inc. and taught at Leaksville Junior High School. Frances was a member of Leaksville United Methodist Church and belonged to Out Our Way Garden Club, the League of Women Voters, Republican Women of Rockingham County, Leaksville Junior Woman's Club, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an avid reader and bridge player, a Girl Scout leader, and a volunteer with the Eden Library, Morehead Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross. Frances is survived by her two children, Dr. Angela Thompson (Jason) and Dr. David Tucker (Karon); two grandchildren, Joseph Goldston (Elizabeth) and Julian Thompson; three brothers, John T. Brock (Mary), Richard J. Brock (Carol), and William L. Brock (Jane); sisters-in-law, Rachel Brock and Margaret Jo Brock; special cousin Bill Brock; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sister Margaret Jo Brock, and brothers Burr Brock, Jr. (Ruth), James Brock, and Rufus Brock. As a devoted homemaker, Frances was always happiest in her home, surrounded by the things she collected on worldwide travels and photos of those she held most dear. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers who treated Frances like family, allowing her to spend her last years comfortably in the home she loved: Margaretta Fountain, Linda Dilliard, Pat Law, Wendy McCollum, Virginia Johnson, Luwanda Millner, and Wendy Hazlip. And the family thanks the caring nurses, aides, and staff of Hospice of Rockingham County. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Basil M. Tucker Scholarship Fund, c/o N.C. Foot and Ankle Society, P.O. Drawer 40399, Raleigh, NC 27629; Burr C. and Laura T. Brock Foundation, P. O.
