LIBERTY Fred Smith, 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at his residence. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday at Mount Hope United Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park. Mr. Smith was born in Guilford County on May 5, 1933 to the late J. Fletcher Smith and Virgie Lineberry Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers: J.F. Smith, Jr. and Jack Smith, his sisters: Katy Byrd and Dorothy Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Helen Friddle Smith, his daughter, Pam Schneider (Mark), his sisters: Shirley Bentley (Earl) and Elsie Bentley, his brothers: Harvey Smith (Margaret) and Ernest Smith (Rose Marie), his grandchildren: Heather Daniel (Brett) and Stephanie Gilbertson (Jens), and his great-grandchildren: Presley and Brooks Daniel. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or Mount Hope United Church of Christ, 2400 Mount Hope Church Road, Whitsett, NC 27377. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel. Forbis & Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel is serving the Smith family.
