Ida Doris "Dot" Peay Dillon
November 2, 1931 - November 20, 2025
MADISON - On November 20, 2025, Ida Doris "Dot" Peay Dillon, 94, loving mother and grandmother, was called to her heavenly home to be reunited with the family and friends who went before her. Born on November 2, 1931, she was the youngest of thirteen children of John Claiborn and Sallie Paschal Peay. Dot entered the world at the Peay Homestead on Danbury Bridge Road in Rockingham County, where her family lived for a century. She lived in Madison for over 91 years and spent her final years lovingly cared for by her son and his family in San Antonio, TX.
In 1951, Dot married her Madison High School sweetheart, Jack Allen Dillon, and together they shared more than 66 years of devoted marriage. She worked for 45 years in the medical offices of Dr. Maurice Couturier and Francis Frenette in Eden, and Dr. Donald Moore in Madison, where she was known and appreciated for her dedication, kindness, and professionalism.
A lifelong and faithful member of Comer's Chapel Church, Dot attended since infancy and served her church family in countless ways-as pianist, Sunday School teacher, Baptist Young Women leader, Women's Missionary Union member, choir member, and church clerk for an extraordinary 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her beloved son, Jack Allen Dillon Jr.; 12 siblings, Janie Taphouse, Bert Wilson, Nannie Roberts, John Lewis Peay, Dillard Peay, Hattie Grey Brown, Lucille McCollum, Robert Peay, Bess Mitchell, Arlene Griffin, Ann Mills, and Henry "Buddy" Peay; and her cherished cat and constant companion, Spooks, who was always by her side.
Ida, known as "Big Mama" to her family and "Dot" throughout her life, will be deeply missed by her daughter, Amy L. Dillon of Greensboro, NC; her son, David A. Dillon and wife Harumi of San Antonio, TX; her grandchildren, Connie Dillon of Colorado, Sara Dillon of Texas, and Hannah Dillon of California; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Dot held special, lifelong bonds with two nieces in particular, Jerri Brown Griffin, her true confidant and one she loved as a sister, and Glenda Ann Wilson, whom she considered her angel of mercy and love.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for her caregivers-Cindy Gaston, Helen Pollok, Veronica Garcia, Elizabeth Hubby, and Heart to Heart Hospice-whose skill, dedication, and compassion were a radiant presence in her final years. She was blessed by the unwavering support given to her family by Kim Dietrich, Sherri Smith, Jerri Griffin, Kathy Amos, Sally Milks, Mary Dell Smothers, Mela Tucker, and Dr. Donald Moore, whose kindness and guidance played an important role in her care.
Her viewing will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 127 Ellisboro Rd., Madison.
A private funeral service will be held at Comer's Chapel Church. A private burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
