James "Jimmy" Dunn III

1951 - 2025

James Ruffin Dunn III, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home in Reidsville.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Main Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Andrew Brown Officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and A committal will follow the service at Greenview Cemetery.

Born in Kinston, N.C., Jimmy was the son of the late, James Ruffin Dunn II and Jenny Black Dunn. Jimmy grew up in Reidsville and was a graduate of Reidsville High School and a member of the 1969 state championship football team. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and was tri captain of the track team his senior year. He would eventually receive two master's Degrees from North Carolina A&T State University. He spent more than 30 years as a teacher, coach and school administrator. He was named Triad 3A Coach of the Year in track and field in 1985 and 1986. After retiring from Guilford County Schools, he taught at Rockingham Community College.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lind Dunn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kay; son, James and yellow lab, Molly. Jimmy was a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he held the position of treasurer and was also a member of the Finance Committee, Church Council and an Usher. Jimmy loved Duck Hunting and was the quintessential outdoorsman. He enjoyed working in his yard where he spent most of his time.
