GREENSBORO - Jim Ward, 87, passed away on August 31, 2022. He was born on August 25, 1935, to Lawrence and Elizabeth Dillon Ward in Jamestown, NC.
Jim graduated from Jamestown High School and later attended High Point College. Once Jim joined the Army, he was able to put his golf skills to use in the U.S. Army Europe. Winning the 1960 COM Z Open in Luxembourg and setting a course record. Once back in the states, he continued his success winning awards such as the CGA One-Day tournament in 1963, placing in the 1964 CGA Championship. In later years, Jim was known to win local tournaments such as the Enterprise Classic and Bud Kivett Tournament. With his last win in 1999, he earned the title of HPU Alumni Senior Champion. Jim worked for 3M Company for over 10 years before starting his own automotive paint store in High Point, NC.
Jim had love for the beach and beach music and never met a stranger.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Julia Mae Wofford, Nancy Barnes Juanita Ward; and his companion of over 19 years Elizabeth Kempton.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Laura Ward of Greensboro.

I am so saddened by the loss of my old friend and teammate at Jamestown High . Laura , I want you to know how much I respected Jim and appreciated all the kindness ,influence and leadership Jim showed me during our younger years. A real competitor, but Jim had fun and loved to reminisce in detail. I miss him , a true friend.

Sorry to hear of Jimmy´s passing. He was my Dad´s (Gordon Dillon) first cousin. I always enjoyed talking to him. Prayers and condolences to the family.
