John Curtis Hawkins passed away with gentle grace on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Beacon Place Hospice facility, Greensboro, N.C. He was laid to rest with military honors in Westminster Gardens, Greensboro, N.C. on March 27, 2023. Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Services, Sedgefield, has been assisting the family of Mr. Hawkins. Born February 22, 1930 to parents John E. Hawkins and Mary Bell Mincey Hawkins in Orange County, North Carolina, John (JC) lived to celebrate his 93rd birthday. The fifth of seven children, JC was raised on a farm in Cedar Grove. There he developed his strong work ethic and love for animals. JC served in the US Army from 1948-1952. He was a proud member of General McArthur's Honor Guard while stationed in Japan following WWII. JC went on to study Business at High Point College, followed by his illustrious career in Insurance. As the owner of Greensboro Insurance Services, he was loved and respected by clients and colleagues. JC served on the board of Penn National Insurance company and the Board of Trustees with NCA&T University. He was active in local and state politics. (GOP of Guilford County and North Carolina) He assumed leadership roles in various organizations building fellowship and providing service to the community. (High Point Civitans, The Jaycees, Young Business Men's Association of Greensboro, The Elk's Club, and Starmount Forest Country Club) John loved sports. He played baseball and basketball as a young man, later adding swimming, skiing, tennis and golf to his favorite leisure activities. John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1971. The past six years, JC resided at Heritage Greens Independent Living community where he lived among friends until his final day. John was blessed with the passion for a life well lived. His blue eyes were especially bright in the presence of his beloved family. He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Hawkins, first wife, Betty Sue C. Hawkins, and second wife, Coleen O. Hawkins. He leaves behind his brother, Carroll Hawkins (Rose) his son Michael Hawkins (Anne), his daughter Debi Hawkins-McLendon (Byron) and daughter Teresa Lowell (Eric). John Curtis Hawkins had a deep love for all six extraordinary grandchildren, their faithful spouses, and ten glorious great grandchildren. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends at Christ United Methodist Church, 410 Holden Road. Greensboro, NC, on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 2 until 4 p.m.
