Kenneth Malcolm Mayo passed away on August 14, 2021, in his home in Greensboro from complications resulting from a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Ken was born on May 14, 1949, in Washington, D.C. to Alice and Kenneth Mayo. He was the youngest of 6 children. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Betty Mayo; and his sisters Jackie Amos and Donna Creel. He is survived by his stepson George Brickley, wife Tamara and their daughters Grace and Caroline of Richmond, VA.; his stepdaughter Carico Vass, husband Phillip and their son Charles of Richmond, VA; his son Daniel Mayo, wife Michelle and their children Lillian and Bennett of Wilmington, NC.; his son Patrick Mayo, Salina Montgomery and their children Keegan and Keira of Puyallup, WA; his sisters Sandra Mayo and Dianne Thompson; his brother Douglas Mayo and very many nieces, nephews and friends. Ken will be deeply missed by many.

Ken attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was a devout Hokie and could be seen most days in maroon and burnt orange. He had a successful career in the concrete and concrete paver business and dedicated many years coaching and refereeing soccer. He was an avid collector and some of his other hobbies included gardening, woodworking and most recently perfecting the art of baking macarons. He was also a MENSA.

A remembrance gathering will be held for family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish we ask that you consider sending a donation to the Carolina Boxer Rescue.
