Lawrence "Larry" Queen
June 4, 1967 - November 16, 2025
Larry Queen, 58, passed away on November 7, 2025. Born and raised in Greensboro, N.C., Larry later lived in New York City and Los Angeles, building a life defined by creativity, kindness, and an unwavering love for music.
Larry attended Darlington School and Grimsley High School, where he played varsity soccer and developed a lifelong love of surfing. He later studied at the College of Charleston, where his passion for music and storytelling truly took root. In 1997, he became the Music Editor at the Charleston City Paper, a role in which his deep appreciation for artists and their work shone through. His thoughtful writing and warm spirit made him beloved by colleagues, musicians, and readers alike.
In 2000, Larry founded SonicPathway, serving as its Editor and Executive Producer. He moved to Manhattan in 2004 and produced an array of music-focused projects, including SoundBites, a show that featured Larry in his natural element-sharing a meal with musicians and engaging them in genuine, soulful conversations about their craft.
Larry moved to Los Angeles in 2011, continuing to write about music and champion the artists and causes he cared about. His work was always rooted in curiosity, compassion, and his desire to uplift the people and communities around him.
A lifelong vegetarian, Larry's love for animals was evident to everyone who knew him. His devoted dog, Bleu-his companion on countless cross-country travels and everyday adventures-was one of the great joys of his life.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Talmadge Queen Jr., and his mother, Laurie Simon Queen, whom he adored. He is survived by his beloved dog, Bleu; many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; his best friend and confidant, Jody Porter; and the countless friends, colleagues, and musicians whose lives were touched by his warmth, humor, and generosity.
A gathering to celebrate Larry's life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC.
