Max Redding Obituary
Max Gerald Redding, a beloved husband, devoted friend, and respected community leader, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on February 11, 1938, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Max was the youngest of nine children born to Harley Spencer Redding and Lola Lavina (Coggins) Redding. He grew up in a large, close-knit family that instilled in him lifelong values of hard work, humility, and integrity.
After graduating from Gaston High School in 1960, Max attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his undergraduate degree and became a proud and devoted Tar Heel for life. At the age of twenty-three, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade at Camp King in Oberursel, Germany, just outside Frankfurt. During his service, he was recognized with the Army Good Conduct Medal for three consecutive years of honorable and faithful service, as well as the Army Marksmanship Badge.
Upon returning home to Gastonia, Max met the love of his life, Carmen Falls. They were married on August 20, 1965, beginning a marriage that would span sixty wonderful years. Together, they shared an enduring love of travel and exploration-journeying to destinations across the globe, from Egypt and Tanzania to Cambodia, Thailand, Scotland, and England. Wherever they ventured, Max's adventurous spirit was ever-present, often accompanied by his loyal dog, Jake.
After earning his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1970, Max and Carmen settled in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he established a distinguished career as an attorney. Known for his integrity, fairness, and unwavering commitment to justice, Max became a highly respected member of the legal community and a steadfast advocate for those he served.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley Redding and Lola Redding and all eight of his siblings.
Max will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, his loyalty to friends, and his lifelong pursuit of justice and compassion. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carmen, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched with kindness and wisdom.
